This would be the single feature that truly made the new reader an " Adobe Reader” for music notation", to quote John Paulson and Ron Raup's PDF announcement: a way for composers and arrangers to publish music that could be printed, but not edited. Almost, it would appear, what some of us have been asking for as an equivalent to Sibelius Scorch.īut one thing has not been announced, and this would be the most important component of any such new line-up: can Finale save files in some special format that cannot be opened in any of the editable versions of Finale, but only in the reader? Īnd in its place, a new Finale Reader is being introduced to enable the wider, non-paying public, to load, display and print Finale files, but not edit them. The PDF makes interesting reading: so NotePad is no longer to be the "Free Reader with Editing", but is now being priced, albeit nominally, as an enty level product. There is not much "lite" about the built-in MusicXML support in Finale 2009. The full Dolet plug-in brings 2009's level of MusicXML support to those who use earlier versions of Finale, along with batch translations and all the latest new features and bug fixes. Finale 2009's built-in MusicXML support is comprehensive, with the ability to read and write MusicXML 2.0 files in both. In past years, Finale's sibling products (PrintMusic, Allegro, and Songwriter) have had the same built-in MusicXML support as the full version of Finale. Perhaps Michael will be along to confirm. I'm assuming Notepad will import and export MusicXML in a "lite" fashion. PrintMusic 2004, 20, Windows XP Pro, Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, P4 2.6 GHz + 1 GB If NP09 is ready, does that mean that we can also expect to see the 09 release for the other Finale products soon - Allegro and possibly PrintMusic ?
